Swallow Croft is a detached bungalow just 1 mile from the popular town of Matlock on the edge of the Peak District. This holiday property is conveniently all on the ground floor level and has been tastefully decorated, with every detail carefully considered by the owners. You will find a well-equipped kitchen and utility area with a sunny conservatory – an ideal place to sit and enjoy breakfast or an evening meal enjoying the wonderful views from the pretty garden. It is also a great base for walkers and cyclists, with storage for your bikes.

Swallow Croft is ideally situated to visit the numerous sights and attractions in the Peak District and Derbyshire Dales. The popular Peak District town of Matlock, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, has been attracting visitors since the spa was developed in the late 17th century. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent, Matlock offers something for everyone. Stroll around the array of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a host of attractions including Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Peak District Mining Museum.

Visitors can enjoy magnificent views down the gorge from the cable cars that take visitors up to the Height of Abraham, a fantastic place to visit with its show caves, nature trails and water gardens. Cyclists can start the High Peak cycle trail from the south of the town, whilst a short drive away you will find the famous town of Bakewell and Chatsworth House. About the local area

Situated just on the eastern edge of the Peak District National Park, the former spa town of Matlock alongside the River Derwent, is a vibrant shopping and tourist area with Victorian architecture, petrifying wells, show caverns and pleasure gardens including most notably Hall Leys Park which provides various leisure and sporting facilities right in the centre of town.

Downriver lies Matlock Bath. This historic village is set in a steep-sided limestone gorge with whitewashed cottages perched along the hill side. Nearer the river a more `touristy' atmosphere prevails with its many attractions from museums and cafes to souvenir shops. On the western side of the gorge is the Heights of Abraham which is popular with visitors due to its superb views and amenities, including restaurant, picnic area and caf�. A cable car can be taken to the top from Matlock Bath railway station.

Between Matlock and Matlock Bath is High Tor, a broad limestone cliff rising some 400 feet above the River Derwent. Around High Tor there is a network of paths suitable for exploring the area and from which to experience the spectacular views. In the grounds below there are refreshment facilities, picnic areas, children's playground, wooded walks and two caverns.

Carsington Water is ahuge draw for outdoor enthusiastswith outdoor activities including walking, cycling, fly fishing, birdwatching, sailing, canoeing, and windsurfing all available. Situated in Asbourne and within easy reach of the Peak Districtit has a sailing club next door to the Visitor Centre and cycle hire. Fly fishing is available from the bank and from boats that can be hired from the Fishing Lodge. There is plentiful car parking and for young children there is a children's playground.

To the south is the market town of Wirksworth, which is one of the oldest towns in the area, with a central marketplace in which markets have been held since the reign of Edward I. Here visitors will find many fine old buildings of great character including a magnificent Jacobean house known as Babington House. The town is now a small bustling and thriving local centre with a selection of shops and pubs.
