The ’High Peak Trail’ goes from the nearby village of Cromford and is ideal for walking or cycling on, this extends to over 23 miles when linked to the ’Tissington Trail’ the latter ending/starting in the market town of Ashbourne. For those whose passion is being either beside or on water there is Carsington Water with its visitor & activity centres. The Crich Tramway Museum is also nearby.
The village of Cromford mentioned earlier has ’World Heritage Site’ listing. The Sir Richard Arkwright Mills are a great place to visit and the newer mill now supports a large retail complex and mill museum.
The village of Matlock Bath (2 miles away) is a Mecca for motorcycle enthusiasts. During the Victorian era Matlock Bath was known as ’Little Switzerland’ and since the mid 1980’s it has had a superb ’Cable Car’ system, this saves all of the leg work and raises the visitor high above the Derwent Valley, also in Matlock Bath is Gullivers Kingdom theme park which makes a great day out for all ages.
