This recent conversion of an old stone building into a holiday cottage offers stylish accommodation surrounded by the high moorland of the ’Dark Peak’. Detached and set alongside the old road between Macclesfield and Buxton, its upside down layout means that the spacious kitchen/lounge enjoys views across the surrounding fields, with two comfortable bedrooms downstairs. A cosy woodburning stove and under floor heating makes the cottage ideal for winter breaks in winter and in summer you can sit out on the patio and enjoy the evening sun.

About the local area

The Macclesfield Forest area, set between the towns of Macclesfield and Buxton, offers spectacular Peak District countryside with high gritstone moors, attractive woodland, reservoirs and ancient packhorse routes, ideal for exploring on foot or bike. The peak of Shuttlingsloe and Tegg’s Nose Country Park are nearby, as is ’The Cat and Fiddle’ - one of the highest inns in Britain. A ten minute drive brings you to Buxton, with its lovely opera house and Crescent, or in the other direction to the former silk town of Macclesfield with a wide choice of shops and restaurants. The Peak District boasts a
wealth of picturesque villages and historic houses such as Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. This is also a convenient place to stay to explore the attractions of the north west – Jodrell Bank observatory, the vibrant cities of Manchester, Chester and Liverpool and historic houses such as Gawsworth Hall (with its summer open air theatre), Little Moreton Hall and Styal Mill
