The Monsal Trail follows the path of the former Midland Railway from Blackwell Mill cottages to a point about 1km past the former Bakewell station, a distance of about 20km. It's a great route for you and your horse with some fascinating historical features along the way. The trail sides and limestone dales contain spectacular unspoilt pastures, hay meadow and ash woodland with an abundance of wildlife. There are many nature reserves along the route so why not stop off along the way and learn more about its industrial past. The trail also crosses the Pennine Bridleway so you can extent your trek and adventure north or south of the trail.
