Haddon Hall sits on the River Wye just outside Bakewell in Derbyshire. It is a 12th Century fortified medieval manor and is generally considered to be perhaps the most perfect example of a medieval manor house in the country.
The gardens are a delight and believed to be the most romantic in Britain. They have been used as a setting in many films and TV programmes, most recently Pride and Prejudice starring Keira Knightly and Dame Judy Dench.
The house is open to visitors from April to October (Tel 01629 812855)
