The town of Whaley Bridge offers good local shopping and a number of pubs and restaurants for a variety of different palates. The popular village of Buxton, famous for its canal basin and excellent public house, is only a short drive away and there are many walks around the area taking in the interesting past history of this unique area.
Within a short car or train journey, the stunning picturesque villages within the Hope Valley can be found. Hope, Castleton and Edale are but a few providing excellent cycling, horse riding and hand gliding. Castleton has many quaint shops selling the famous semi precious Blue John stone and a historic Castle overlooking the village.
Hope is a great base to walk up the two impressive hills of the area, Winn Hill and Lose Hill. Both have stunning views of either the Hope Valley or the famous Ladybower Reservoir used as the practice dam in World War II by the "Dambusters".
Buxton is close by and has many interesting attractions for all ages, has good restaurants and a pleasant Opera House showing many famous musicians and stars. Bakewell is a slightly further drive but well worth a visit. It has many interesting shops, a picturesque river and the famous stately home of Chatsworth House and Park is nearby. Haddon Hall, a fortified medieval manor house, is just up the road from Bakewell and is open to visitors from Easter to October. This property is set in an ideal location and is a great base for exploring the High Peak.

I can't give enough praise. The cottage and location were fantastic. The owners lived next door and they couldn't do enough for us and kept checking everything was ok. We had heavy snow whilst we were away and the owners cleared a path so we could get out, as we would have been snowed in. The cottage lived up to our expectations and would definitely stay there again and have already recommended family and friends to stay. If the owners get to read these comments, please pass on our thanks.
Helpful owners, lovely cottage, great location and loved the wood burner.
Very nice property
