Rock Climbing

The Peak District has some of the most challenging and popular rock climbing routes in the country.

The central location of the Peak District means its well sheltered from the variable weather and prevailing winds you may get on the western coasts. The gritstone is pretty special too. Its unique friction properties has made this area world famous.

Aswell as the gritstone the White Peaks, lying in the centre of the Peak District are made from limestone so again this offers a different climbing experience.

The great range of climbing routes throughout the county means that beginners looking for a gentle introduction to climbing will be well catered for. There are a wealth of activity providers who offer days out with full training and equipment provided.

Those who prefer to go it alone should head to the famous Roaches, Stanage Edge or Froggatt Edge for long climbs, fantastic variety and amazing views.
