The outstanding scenery of the Peak District and Derbyshire provides a paradise for walking, cycling and a whole variety of outdoor adventure sports such as rock climbing and hang gliding. But if you want a more leisurely holiday, it has this too. Discover the joys of breathtaking views, bustling market towns such as Ashbourne, Matlock Bath and Buxton and plenty of cultural and historical heritage, including magnificent stately homes like Chatsworth House and Hardwick Hall or the medieval Haddon Hall. At the heart of the Peak District lies Britain’s first national park. This is a place rich in wildlife, with dramatic moorlands, lush valleys, stunning limestone gorges and ancient stone villages and market towns, which are amongst the prettiest in the country. This area also enjoys the most extensive public transport network of any national park, giving visitors the chance to enjoy the countryside without the use of the car. To the north is situated The High Peak, with heather-clad moorland renowned for its rare wildlife and great walking country. Climb Mam Tor for superb views or maybe walk to Kinder Scout where the Mass Trespass of 1932 took place. Further south the craggy gritstone edges and limestone valleys of the Derbyshire Dales also offers visitors great walking and cycling and here there are many enchanting villages and historic market towns dotted throughout the countryside waiting to be discovered. Over to the west of the Peak District, the expansive vistas of the Staffordshire Moorlands include The Roaches, an area popular with climbers who scale towering gritstone edges which overlook tranquil lakes and reservoirs. Derbyshire and The Peak District has a wonderfully diverse landscape with plenty of things to do and places to visit, making it an ideal holiday destination. | ||||||||||||||
