Bank Cottage is a beautiful and traditional white limestone cottage, sections of which some believe date back to the 17th century. It commands one of the most striking vistas in the whole of the Peak District, looking out over the village green and many of the most historic buildings in the ancient village of Bradwell, away towards the dramatic swoop of Abney Moor and the dizzy heights of Bradwell Edge. A huge range of superb walks are in Bradwell and the surrounding area, one of which is direct from the cottage to the heart of Castleton, famous for the semi precious stone, Blue John.
The cottage has an ancient stone fireplace with a cosy wood-burning stove and has retained many of its original features including the restored window seat where you can take in the stunning views.
Bank Cottage is in the centre of the ‘old’ part of Bradwell and is just 200 yards from the White Hart, a small and charming 17th century inn. The village of Bradwell is very well catered for with two other pubs, a small supermarket, and even a traditional family run fish and chip shop. It has a children’s play area, a variety of historic churches and chapels and has a stream running right through the middle of the village. It also boasts the home of the world famous Bradwell ice cream, still sold in the original village shop, where it is made.
The village is well served by buses and the train station in Hope is only 3 miles away. The interesting towns of Bakewell and Buxton are a short drive and the stunning houses of Chatsworth and Haddon are very close by. Buxton is a spa town and has a good shopping area while Bakewell, famous for its tarts and pudding offers a quaint picturesque river to walk along side.
