This quarry worker's cottage, dating from the 1870's is located in the historic village of Buxworth in the High Peak. It has been completely renovated, tastefully furnished and equipped with new appliances and now provides a comfortable and practical home from home. It's in a fabulous location close to Bugsworth Canal Basin, overlooking the village cricket green with open countryside and views to the front and back.
Buxworth previously known as Bugsworth, is home to the historic Bugsworth Basin which was the largest and busiest inland port on the narrow canal system. Reopened to boats in 2005, the basin is often busy with visitors and boaters enjoying the beautiful location and the hospitality of the Navigation Inn. The cottage is just over 1 mile from both Whaley Bridge and Chinley and 2 miles from Chapel en le Firth with their local shops, pubs, restaurants and supermarkets so everything you need is close by. Sitting on the edge of the Peak District National Park, the cottage provides a great base from which to explore the surrounding area with it's stunning scenery, old town, pretty villages and historic buildings and gardens.
With open countryside on the doorstep the cottage offers great opportunities for walking, cycling and running , photography, sightseeing and enjoying country life without getting in the car. For those interested in climbing, clay shooting, golf and potholing there are plenty of opportunities nearby.
Take a short drive up the beautiful Goyt Valley and you are soon in the popular spa town of Buxton with its Pavilion gardens, famous Opera House, shops, cafes and restaurants. The village of Hayfield, the gateway to Kinder Scout and the Sett Valley Trail is only 15 minutes away, as is the stunning Dunge Valley Hidden Garden, famous for Rhododendrons and Azaleas or the Chestnut Owl and Otter Centre. Historic Lyme & Park, famous for the lake scene in Pride & Prejudice, is a 20 minute drive and the villages of Edale & Castleton are only 25 minutes away with great walking & cycling, exhibition caves, caste, tea rooms and shops. Further a field Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Chatsworth House, Ladybower Reservoir, Hartington and Hathersage are all within an hour's drive.
The location makes it a great place to enjoy the outdoors with your dogs. The cottage can accommodate up to 2 and there are many interesting walks from the front door - short and flat or long and hilly the choice is yours. The garden is only small but there is a playing field and footpaths only a few 100 metres from the door for evening exercise.
