Pedal along dozens of cycleways...
There is no need to take your own bikes when visiting Derbyshire. The county has many hire centres which offer a wide variety of bikes including baby seats, child buggies, mountain bikes, trailerbikes and tandems!
Nine specially designed journeys have been mapped out by the tourist board which range from a modest seven miles right up to a more strenuous 28 miles! These routes take you around peaceful reservoirs, along unused railway tracks and through traditional estate villages. All these fantastic routes can be downloaded before you leave for your cottage holiday from the ‘Visit Peak District’ website.
Another huge draw for keen cyclists is the Peak District Electric Bicycle Network. This unique system offers you a brand new way of discovering the beautiful Peak District countryside. Simply hire an electric bike from one of the special centres and off you go! Make sure you download 'Hire and Charge Points' before you set off so you can plan routes which won’t mean you end up with a flat battery!
Those keen to get stuck into some serious mountain biking have three long distance routes to explore. Trans Pennine Trail, Pennine Cycleway and Cheshire Cycleway all run through the county.
Check out more biking routes and hire centres below or click on ‘Browse our cottages suitable for mountain biking and cycling’ for all our cottages within close proximity to cycleways and hire centres.
