Golf is the ideal way to indulge your passion and at the same time enjoy the beautiful Peak District countryside that’s all around you. There’s a good choice of fine 18 hole and 9 hole golf clubs to be found, many of them ‘hidden gems’ just waiting to be played and many are within comfortable driving distance of one another.
Many golf clubs are open to the public, where you can walk up, pay and play. At some clubs you may need to book a tee time in advance and produce a handicap certificate. It’s best checking first if you’re in any doubt. Green fees can be very competitive and at public courses you may only pay as little as £10 for a round!
Club house facilities will vary from course to course but at many golf clubs you can enjoy restaurant and bar food as well as a relaxing drink after your game. For the irregular or inexperienced golfer you may be able to hire golf clubs at the pro’s shop.
Ashbourne Golf Club, close to the towns itself is an 18 hole golf course which was first contructed in 1996. It is set in 158 acres boasting spectacular views into Dovedale and the Peak District.
The thriving market town of Bakewell lies in the heart of the National Park and just north east of the town is this fabulous 9 hole golf course which dates back to 1899.
The golf course at Horlsey Lodge near Belper is one the number one courses in Derbyshire.
Matlock Golf Club in situated in the lovely town of Matlock in the Peak District national park. It consists of a 18 hole par 70 course of just over 5,800 yards with spectacular views across the valley of the River Derwent.
